The place to start if you are deciding whether to support Kodukeel. Each section says what holds, read from this installation when you open the page, and links to the page that says more.

What Kodukeel is

Kodukeel means home language. It’s free, and every Estonian form in it comes from a dictionary, never from AI.

It is for adults who live in Estonia and read English, Russian or Ukrainian, and the app is written in all three.

What this installation has done

The figures appear here once enough people use the app to publish them safely.

Every figure, and the rules that keep each one from identifying anybody, are on what this installation has done.

The course

The levels up to A2 are 122 lessons. They come in 16 parts, and every part ends in a check of what its lessons taught. The levels above are 45 units until each of them becomes lessons too.

B1
15 units
B2
16 units
C1
14 units

What each lesson and unit says a learner can do, and which part of the state examination it prepares for, is on what the course covers.

How it uses Ekilex

Every dictionary entry that Ekilex supplied carries this credit:

Forms and example sentences from Ekilex, by the Institute of the Estonian Language, under CC BY 4.0. Any form shown as worked out was derived here from what Ekilex stores.

What the app takes from Ekilex, how it asks, and what it gives back is written up for the Institute in a brief for the Institute, in English and in Estonian.

What this installation asked of Ekilex

Ekilex is the Institute of the Estonian Language’s dictionary database, and every form and example sentence here comes from it. These are counts of what this installation asked of it in the last 30 days.

Nothing was asked of Ekilex in the last 30 days, and nothing was answered from its stored copy.

Looking a word up live is two requests: one to find it and one for its forms and sentences. A request counts once, however many tries it took.

What it costs

With somebody paid to work on it, at the size the funding page starts from (100 learners), it costs about $309 a month. With nobody paid, a server and a database keep it teaching for $45 a month.

Every line of the bill, where each price comes from, and what goes first if the money stops, are on the funding page.

How it is checked

  • How we know: Each claim Kodukeel makes about itself, the figure behind it, the day it was measured and the command that measures it again.
  • Accessibility: The accessibility standard Kodukeel aims for, what we’ve checked and how, where it falls short today, and how to tell us.
  • Trust and security: Whether Kodukeel is safe for a class, a team or a grant. The short answers come first, then the detail behind each one.
  • security.txt: Where to report a security problem, in the standard form a researcher looks for first.
